Who Wins?

"The Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses." (Dan. 4:25, 32)
And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords. (Rev. 19:14-16)

As another election season winds down, Americans are anxious to know who will lead our nation over the next four years. Will it be the incumbent, a braggadocios blowhard who makes Attila the Hun look like a charmer? Or will it be an old codger who no longer has the mental capacity to string together a cogent sentence? Depending on who you listen to, our country is teetering on the precipice of catastrophe or the dawn of a new golden age--take your pick. One question burns in everyone's mind: Who wins?
I can answer that question without looking at a single poll or election return: God wins!
The maelstrom of political conflict that is consuming our nation is nothing new in human history. Throughout the ages, great empires have risen on backs of others, only to be brought down in their own time. The Pax Americana that we have enjoyed over the past few generations is merely a blip in a much larger panorama of chaos that reflects our fallen human condition.
In the end, it really doesn't matter if Trump or Biden wins this election. America's days are numbered, and sooner or later her glory will be eclipsed by another world power, who will dominate the world until another arises, then another.
But presiding over all this turbulence is God the Creator, who is carefully orchestrating a master plan of His own. One day, at a time of His choosing, His Son--"King of kings and Lord of lords"--will sweep down from heaven and bring all history to a final glorious end. Then will be fulfilled the promise of the ages, "Thy will be done."
In the meantime, our job as the people of God is to speak and act as citizens of the Kingdom of God. We cannot change the trajectory of empires, but we can influence the little corner of the world we occupy. Let's be busy in that good work.
